Located between Omaha Beach and Utah Beach, Pointe du Hoc is a steep 30-meter-high cliff, occupied by a strategic German battery during World War II. On June 6, 1944, the morning of D-Day, soldiers of the 2nd Ranger Battalion climbed these cliffs under enemy fire to neutralize the guns threatening the nearby beaches. Although the artillery pieces were moved before the assault, the mission remains an act of remarkable bravery.

The site, which remains intact with its shell craters, gutted bunkers and breathtaking views of the sea, is today a moving place of remembrance, managed by the American Battle Monuments Commission. A must-see visit to understand the intensity of the fight for the liberation of France.
